Events: Showcasing the Versatility of the Breed
The German Shepherd Dog Club of Minneapolis and Saint Paul is committed to promoting the German Shepherd Dog and the future of the breed. The club does so in a variety of ways, beginning with socialization classes for young puppies, offering regular puppy and obedience training classes, and celebrating our members' numerous accomplishments at our Annual Awards Banquet and with brags on Facebook as they compete at all levels of Conformation, Agility, Obedience, Rally, Herding, Scent Work and more. We honor their therapy and service work that benefits our community. Reach out and find out how you can join the fun!
As a regional club of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, we support and encourage exhibiting and participating in events at AKC-recognized shows and matches given by other dog clubs.
We encourage and hold programs that educate and support the German Shepherd dog owner, as well as start newcomers into the sport of dog show exhibiting, and performance trials. In addition, we promote the German Shepherd Dog through promotions, such as benching at the Minnesota State Fair, and holding our own specialty shows and matches, and other events.
As a large club, we have tremendous experience and resources for the German Shepherd enthusiast to participate in and learn from. Lastly, we are committed to the German Shepherd Dog for what he was created to be; a loyal companion and friend.
Monthly Club Meetings
The German Shepherd Dog Club of Mpls & St. Paul meets on the second (2nd) Friday of every month at Animal Inn Training
Center unless otherwise posted.

AKC Scent Work Trial - Feb. 8-9, 2025
AKC Scent Work is a fun sport for companion animals based on the work of professional detection dogs. Real-life professional detection dogs are trained to search for a variety of things–firearms, drugs, explosives, human remains, produce and other agricultural items, just to name just a few. Companion animals are similarly trained to find specific scents; but instead of searching for drugs, etc. companion dogs are searching for specific essential oils on a cotton swab that are hidden in the environment. Dog and handler must work together to be successful. It's a fun and rewarding activity that dogs of any age can excel in and enjoy. Learn more about AKC's version of the sport at AKC's website.
Pointy-Eared Training: Monthly Socialization and Obedience Workshops
Andrea Lane and the team are pleased to invite you to our Pointy-Eared Training Monthly Socialization and Obedience Workshops.
Got an issue you'd like to work on, or just want to practice your current skills, and learn some new ones? We can help!
At this workshop students will have fun training with ideas that they learn at the workshop and practice during the month. Your dog will be wagging its tail as it learns to work with you as the pack leader guiding the team. This is a positive and confidence building training for your German Shepherd. The purpose of these workshops is to introduce you to the other local German Shepherd owners in a relaxed environment while improving socialization/obedience skills and knowledge. Students of all levels are welcome.
